One of my friends has begun her journey blogging and is currently at blogspot. I do have a blog over there, as well as one at tumblr, but I tend to use my wordpress account the most.
I suggested if she wants more interaction and visits to her blog, despite how lovely blogspot looks, wordpress has been (for me) the best way to go.
The thing I love about my wordpress blog is the ease with which you can browse other wordpress blogs using tags and saved searches, as well as how you can follow them in your feed.
There are a lot of templates, some are free, and some cost, and you can customise your own or those of others.
People can like, comment, share and now also reblog. This gives readers a way of showing their appreciation for your work. Blogspot/blogger, does have a lot of this, but I just used to find my blog didn’t attract as much of an engaged readership.
But that said I still like some of the templates over at blogspot, and that they don’t charge you to take advertising off your site and give you the ability to embed storify articles and video without a cost.
One of my favourite blogger templates allows you to view the screen in a few ways, so you can go snapshot, magazine, flipcard, mosaic and timeslide.
You are welcome to go check out my World Citizen Dreaming site at blogspot World Citizen Dreaming and see what I mean.
I’ve kept a site there for my Smile Within Project as I love the layout of this particular template.
As for my tumblr site I don’t use it much, but do have a feed to my wordpress going over there.
People like, and reblog over there a lot, but so far I haven’t delved that deeply into it and prefer the conversations over at wordpress at this stage.
As I look into setting up commerce features on my blogs site, or websites I am considering who is best to go with, or whether to have a website.
One thing at a time, and for now just enjoying these spaces, before I go adding places you can purchase work.
Thanks so much to everyone who visits the blog regularly, and my other online spaces, and especially people who have a bit of time to leave comments, feedback and who read my monthly newsletter.
I’ll share a bit more on storify in a future blog, but it is a brilliant tool for scrapbooking a special interest you have in a recent news story, band, writing theme and I am hoping to use it a little more.
You can find one of my storify articles collections here. After Yasi Storify Storify is awesome and you can include video, twitter, blogs, articles, flickr photos, you can link to it all!
Maybe your experience has been different. Which do you prefer, wordpress, blogger or tumblr?
Hi June, I’m a dedicated WP blogger too. I agree with you that interaction is a nice feature. Blogspot themes are pretty special though! Thanks for this post. I’m going to bookmark it for future reference. Ali
