The World is Singin’ its Blues

Guitar Boy by June Perkins

The world is singin’ its blues
askin’ for a bit of time to heal
askin’ why it’s so hard to feel
that nothin’ we do is gonna make
peace be real

askin’ for a DJ who understands
the need for peace
who can give us some
musical release
to bleed out the fears
dress them in a mother’s tears

The world is ringin’ out its questions
why, oh why’s a piece of land
or your religion
something to kill or die for
and why are people so quick
to tie their fate to
those noose of hate?

askin’ for a DJ who can change the down beat
into an upbeat
bring some kind of optimism into play
dress that sorrow
in a technicolour tomorrow

The world is singin’ its blues
askin’ for a bit of time to heal
askin’ why it’s so hard to feel
that nothin’ we do is gonna make
peace be real

  1. Your words are so perfectly pitched and remarkable in their tone. I will return and read them again… and again. Thank you always for your beauty and inspiration. Many blessings and much peace to you. Michele

  2. Thanks Michele, I always love catching up with the beauty and sensitivity on your blog. I keep holding onto that hope that poetry and art can have power the more of us raise our voices.

  3. Reblogged this on Ripple Poetry and commented:

I’ve been working on many writing projects, but somehow my heart just wants to write a lot of peace poetry and songs – the world is in such dire straits and we are all connected and need to reach out and build a peaceful world. This seems the most urgent thing to write, dream and work for.

  4. June, bless you… for we are kindred spirits. I believe in the power of poetry and art to create positive change on this incredible planet Earth. BTW, we’ve just opened the International Call-for-Artists for the 5th Annual Peace Project Exhibit. Please consider submitting your artwork and sharing our Call-for-Artists with your friends and network. It is a dream to bring our touring peace exhibit to Australia. Have you any thoughts on this?

  5. It would be wonderful to bring a tour here, there are a number of avenues, it’s a matter of planning and booking well ahead, libraries are one way to go and then there are various galleries, like the gallery of modern art in Brisbane and other places that are stunning to put work in. Museums are another space, with themed exhibits.

  6. Thank you. I very much appreciate your thoughtful suggestions. I will do some research and pay close attention to the signs… as and when they manifest in my waking and sleeping dreams.

  7. Thank you kindly Jedda, looking forward to when you finish your book. I’ve been finding some good links for children’s book writing online.
