This is your last chance to see the exhibition in Brisbane.

We are open from 10-4pm today.

From 10 until 12 Ruha and Minaira Fifita will be sharing tapacloth painting and talking about the background of how tapa and the materials put on it are created and where they come from.

And from 2-3pm  A workshop writing poetry inspired by the art in Illumine will be taking place, with poet June Perkins.

We shut at 4pm.

(And then it is onto the Gold Coast)

1.  Saturday 26th November, 7.30pm: Miriam Lieberman and her trio: CD Launch: “Full Circle”

Miriam is one of Australia’s most unique musical talents, and after launching her stunning new album “Full Circle” at The Abbey in Canberra, she will give her only Brisbane performance here at Magda’s. She specialises in the kora (the west African “harp”) but also guitar and Lara Goodridge (violin) and Kate Adams (cello) and fabulous vocals.

This will be a very special evening! Their previous CD was listed as CD of the week by ABC RN.


2.  Saturday 3rd December, 6.30pm: Folk at Magda’s with Tin Star and Nadia Sunde

“Tin Star” comprising Penny Boys, Cathy Bell and Dan Grant bring their wonderful music back to Magda’s with the glorious voice of Nadia Sunde – acclaimed for her ‘divinely warm and soulful voice’. Nadia, an internationally awarded songwriter, actress, comedienne and ABC Radio music journalist, will be accompanied by James Ross on guitar and Elias Kokkoris on double bass.

Blackboard performers from 6.30, headline acts from 7.30.


3.  Friday 9th December, 7.30pm: Ingrid James; Sholeh Wolpe; and Queenslander extra-ordinaire, Belza Lowah

A night featuring: Iranian poet, actor and singer, Sholeh Wolpe; Belza Lowah (Torres Straits), and Brisbane’s own international jazz diva: Ingrid James and trio!

Sholeh will present Sufi mystic poetry and some of her latest works accompanied on a traditional Persian instrument. Her translation of Sufi mystic poet Attar’s masterpiece “The Conference of the Birds”, was awarded the prestigious PEN/Heim grant and lauded as an “artful and exquisite modern translation”.

4.  Saturday 17th December, 7.30pm Caroline Hammond: CD launch: “One More Trip Around the Sun.

A beautiful new collection from Brisbane’s own musical treasures. Insightful and joyous – acoustic music to move the feet and soul.

With some of Brisvegas’ best supporting musos – just to make it a very special evening.
